Constitutional Carry Bills Filed in Montgomery with Record Support

press release

Montgomery, AL – At least 40 State Representatives in Alabama are now on record supporting pro-gun Constitutional Carry legislation after cosponsoring Rep. Andrew Sorrell’s House Bill 44, and Rep. Shane Stringer’s House Bill 66.

In the Senate, two more Constitutional Carry bills have been filed ahead of the 2022 Legislative Session: Senate Bill 1 by Sen. Gerald Allen and Senate Bill 12 by Sen. Tim Melson.

“For the first time in a decade, the Alabama Legislature appears primed to pass a solid piece of pro-gun legislation,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “But the citizens of Alabama must keep the pressure on their elected officials and urge them to make Alabama the next Constitutional Carry state.”

Constitutional Carry is the simple concept that any law-abiding adult who is legally able to possess a handgun should be able to carry that handgun openly or concealed, without having to pay a tax or obtain a government permit.

Twenty-one states currently recognize the right to carry a handgun without a permit including neighboring states Mississippi and Tennessee.

“For far too long the Alabama legislature has done nothing to restore gun rights which have been unconstitutionally taxed and regulated. But we’ve made passing Constitutional Carry into law our number one priority in state legislatures all around the country — and we’ll keep lobbying in Alabama until it’s done.” concluded Brown.

Alabama’s 2022 Legislative Session kicks off January 11th at the State House in Montgomery.

The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide.
