Indianapolis, IN — The National Association for Gun Rights is calling on the Indiana State Senate to quickly pass Constitutional Carry and send it to Governor Eric Holcomb’s desk for approval.
“Thanks to the expedient and bipartisan passage of Constitutional Carry legislation in the House, Indiana is well on its way to becoming the 22nd Constitutional Carry state,” said Dudley Brown, President of National Association for Gun Rights. “Last year, however, Senate leadership allowed Constitutional Carry to languish in their chamber — refusing to even hold a hearing on the bill.”
In 2021, Senate Judiciary Chair Liz Brown refused to schedule a hearing for the Constitutional Carry bill that passed out of the Indiana State House despite strong support from the Republican caucus to vote on and pass the bill.
“Our sources inside the capitol are reporting that Senate President Pro. Temp. Rodric Bray plans to send Constitutional Carry back to the Senate Judiciary Committee where Senator Brown killed the bill last year. But we all know Senator Bray has the power to send House Bill 1077 to any committee, at any time. If Bray chooses to send the bill back to a ‘kill committee’ where it died last year, we can only assume his goal is to derail Constitutional Carry during this legislative session.” said Will Fite, legislative director of Hoosier Gun Rights.
Grassroots activists, along with the National Association for Gun Rights and Hoosier Gun Rights, have lobbied for years to restore the God-given right to carry a concealed handgun without the need for a government issued permit.
“Law-abiding Hoosiers are fed up with weak-kneed Republican Senators playing political games with their constitutional rights. We expect House Bill 1077 to be sent to a committee where it will receive a fair hearing, a vote, and ultimately receive approval from the Senate.” said Brown.
Constitutional Carry is the simple concept that any law-abiding adult who is legally able to possess a handgun should be able to carry that handgun openly or concealed, without having to pay a tax or obtain a government permit.
Indiana will become the 22nd Constitutional Carry state if the Indiana State Senate passes House Bill 1077 and it is signed into law.
