Columbus, OH – The National Association of Gun Rights is urging the Ohio House of Representatives to pass Senate Bill 215 – Constitutional Carry. Introduced by Sen. Terry Johnson, SB 215 passed out of the Senate by a 23-8 vote on December 15 of last year.
“Senate Bill 215 is a solid Constitutional Carry bill which the Ohio House needs to pass and immediately send to Gov. DeWine’s desk for signature,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “Ohio has the chance to become to 22nd Constitutional Carry state and pave the way for more states to pass this rights restoring legislation in 2022.”
Constitutional Carry is the straightforward idea that law-abiding citizens shouldn’t need to pay a tax and get permission from the government to exercise their right to bear arms. SB 215 restores the right to carry a handgun openly, or concealed, without having to obtain a permit.
“Constitutional Carry is the most popular pro-gun legislation in the country, with multiple state legislatures poised to pass it into law in 2022. As an organization we’ve spent years working in the Ohio Legislature, activing grassroots activists to lobby their elected officials to get this bill enshrined into law. Law-abiding Ohioans want this bill signed into law and we’re doing everything in our power to make it happen.” said Brown.
While SB 215 removes the requirement to obtain a concealed handgun permit, it does not eliminate the permitting system. Citizens who want a permit for reciprocity reasons will still be able to purchase a concealed handgun permit in Ohio.
Neighboring states Kentucky and West Virginia have already passed Constitutional Carry into law, with Indiana also considering its passage in 2022.
“Now is the time to get this done. We’re not content with merely fending off gun control measures from the anti-gun Left – we want to see the Second Amendment restored, and the barriers to lawful self-defense destroyed. The sooner this bill arrives at the governor’s desk, the better.” concluded Brown.
If passed in 2022, Ohio would become the second largest state by population to officially recognize Constitutional Carry as the law.
The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide.
