National Association for Gun Rights Urges Ohio House to Restore Original Bill Text of SB 215

press release

Columbus, OH – Today, the Ohio House Government Oversight Committee passed two anti-gun amendments which are now included in the text of Senate Bill 215 — Ohio’s Constitutional Carry bill.

One amendment now allows law enforcement officers to “Stop and Frisk” law-abiding citizens for merely carrying a firearm, while the other amendment changes the standard of Constitutional Carry from the ability to legally possess a handgun to the ability to obtain a permit in Ohio.

“We’ve seen this in state after state – foolishly and dangerously altering the text of a clean Constitutional Carry bill, muddying the waters of restoring our right to keep and bear arms,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “Both of these amendments do nothing to keep Ohioans safe, but instead, put cops in greater danger and also destroy the ability to legally possess a handgun and also carry it for protection.”

Representative D. J. Swearingen authored and proposed both anti-gun amendments. Both amendments were passed by a voice vote.

“We’re urging all of our members and supporters in Ohio to call their representative and demand they strip both of the anti-gun amendments from Senate Bill 215. Ohio is a on the precipice of becoming the 22nd Constitutional Carry state, and amending a great bill into a half-measure is incredibly irresponsible. It can still be restored to its original bill text before heading back to the Senate.”

The National Association for Gun Rights is lobbying the Ohio House of Representatives, urging them to restore Senate Bill 215 to its original text by striking the anti-gun amendments passed in House Government Oversight Committee.

The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide.
