Florida Gun Rights supports the call for a special session and the restoration of the right to keep and bear arms
Tallahassee, FL – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis called on the Florida Legislature to hold a special session in April and pass Constitutional Carry into law.
“I am thrilled that Gov. DeSantis is calling for a special session in order to pass Constitutional Carry into law,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “The restoration of the right to bear arms without government infringement is a top priority for our members, and Florida has a chance to join several other states which have passed Constitutional Carry in 2022. This would be a massive victory for gun owners in the Sunshine State.”
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Gov. DeSantis said,” I would love to have constitutional carry” in relation to a special session he has called in order deal with congressional redistricting maps.
Last week the National Association for Gun Rights and state affiliate Florida Gun Rights urged Gov. DeSantis to call for a special session so Constitutional Carry could receive a vote, and if passed, become law.
The Florida legislature failed to advance Constitutional Carry during the regular session even with numerous legislators on record in support of Constitutional Carry. Governor DeSantis was supportive of the legislation during the regular session — even calling for the legislature to put it on his desk.
“A special session is going to happen, and legislators must make passing Constitutional Carry their top priority,” said Matt Collins, Director of Legislation for Florida Gun Rights. “Florida is on the cusp of freeing millions of law-abiding citizens from the shackles of gun control, and we’ll be engaging our members to lobby their elected officials, demanding that their gun rights be restored.”
Alabama, Ohio, and Indiana have passed Constitutional Carry in 2022.
Constitutional Carry is the straightforward law that any law-abiding adult who is legally able to possess a handgun should be able to carry that handgun openly, or concealed, without first having to pay a tax or obtain a government permit.
The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide.
