Hoosier Gun Rights Opposes Bipartisan Gun Control Bill, Condemns Sen. Young

press release

Last night, the U.S. Senate introduced and voted on an 80 page gun control bill within less than 3 hours. The bill, known as the Bipartisan Safe Communities Act, passed an initial procedural vote by 64-34 tally, and a vote on final passage in the U.S. Senate is expected before the end of the week.

Indiana Senator Todd Young voted in favor of last night’s procedural vote.

“It’s disgraceful that Senator Young would stoop so low as to violate his oath to the U.S. Constitution by voting for this infringement on the Second Amendment,” said Will Fite, Director of Legislation for Hoosier Gun Rights, the Indiana state affiliate of the National Association for Gun Rights. “Hoosier Gun Rights will continue to fight this radical anti-American legislation that includes tax payer funding for Red Flag gun confiscation and de facto gun bans for 18-20 year old Americans. I urge Senator Young to reverse course and vote against this bill when it hits the floor.”

If signed into law, this legislation will constituent the largest expansion in federal gun control laws in over 30 years as it implements a grant system to provide federal funding for states with Red Flag laws, imposes a new federal misdemeanor gun ban, among other policy changes.

“This is dark moment in the fight for our Second Amendment rights, but we aren’t giving up – we’ll only double down in our opposition,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights.

Hoosier Gun Rights opposes all federal gun control legislation, and is calling on Indiana’s U.S. Senators to vote NO on the Bipartisan Safe Communities Act.  Hoosier Gun Rights is asking its members and all pro-Second Amendment Hoosiers to call the Congressional Switchboard and tell them to oppose all gun control in the U.S. Senate.
