This morning, the U.S. Senate invoked cloture on the nomination of Steve Dettelbach by a vote of 48-46.
Mere hours later, the confirmation vote sneaked by confirming Dettelbach to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).
This marks the first Senate-confirmed ATF Director since B. Todd Jones stepped down in 2015.
In 2021, Joe Biden’s first nominated David Chipman, whos nomination was ultimately withdrawn by the Biden Administration, strictly because of pressure from gun rights supporters and a lack of votes in the Senate.
But Biden has been determined to fill the vacancy.
In April, it was announced that Steve Dettelbach would be the next nominee to become the permanent Director of the ATF.
Dettelbach, a failed Ohio Attorney General candidate, has a long history of supporting gun control measures such as bans on so-called “assault weapons” and Universal Gun Registration.
On top of that, he even earned the endorsement of Bloomberg’s gun control group, “Everytown for Gun Safety.”
NAGR argues that the President should be in the business of upholding and defending the Second Amendment instead of nominating an ATF Director who would undermine and destroy it.
Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights, added:
“President Biden has chosen yet another ATF Director candidate with ‘Gun Control Incorporated’s’ stamp of approval. Nothing in Dettlebach’s background leads us to believe that he would ever side with law-abiding gun owners when it comes to protecting our right to keep and bear arms.”
