National Association for Gun Rights Condemns Governor Healey’s Attack on Law-Abiding Gun Owners

Boston, MA – The National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) strongly condemns Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey for signing an emergency preamble to enact a sweeping firearms ban that expands the list of prohibited firearms with broad and convoluted language and puts law-abiding gun owners in danger of being criminalized overnight.

Governor Healey’s decision comes amid an ongoing grassroots effort to bring this measure to the voters through a 2026 ballot referendum. By signing the emergency preamble, she has effectively thwarted the democratic process in an effort to eliminate any chance of the law being delayed before the citizens of Massachusetts have the opportunity to make their voices heard.

“This is an outrageous assault on the Second Amendment, and Governor Healey has completely circumvented the democratic process by pushing this law into effect immediately instead of waiting to allow the people of Massachusetts to have a say,” said Angelo Veltri, Northeast Regional Director of the National Association for Gun Rights. “Her actions are a direct threat to law-abiding citizens and a brazen attempt to turn gun owners into criminals.”

The law, which adds convoluted restrictions that could devastate the firearms industry in the state, leaves gun shop owners in limbo, unsure of what they can legally sell. The rapid implementation and vague guidelines threaten to drive gun shops out of business, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty and fear among firearm dealers and gun owners alike.

The National Foundation for Gun Rights (NFGR) is also taking action.

“This act is outrageously unconstitutional and violates every tenant of the Supreme Court’s Bruen ruling,” said Hannah Hill, Vice President of the National Foundation for Gun Rights. “We were already suing to overturn the Romney semi-auto and magazine ban, and our legal team is looking very closely at how our lawsuit can address the semi-auto ban’s expansion. This is far from over.”

The National Association for Gun Rights remains committed to defending the rights of Massachusetts gun owners and ensuring that unconstitutional laws like these do not stand unchallenged.

The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide.
