Signatures from gun rights supporters demanded the Court dismiss Mexico v. Smith & Wesson immediately.
Early last week, National Association for Gun Rights President Dudley Brown, along with a handful of pro-gun U.S. Representatives, delivered a press conference in front of the United States Supreme Court.
Mexico is suing Smith & Wesson, alleging the American gun manufacturer violated state laws by “aiding and abetting the trafficking of guns to Mexican drug cartels, helping to fuel what Mexico has called as an ‘epidemic of violence.’”
Additionally, Mexico is demanding the Court issues a complete ban on production of AR-15 and AK-47 platform rifles.
NAGR gathered more than 55,000 Civis Directivum (Latin for “Citizen’s Directive”) signatures from gun rights supporters nationwide, demanding the Court dismiss the case completely, as it violates the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act.
Dudley Brown had this to say about the lawsuit:
“This is a blatant attempt by a foreign power to use our courts to impose European-style gun control on American citizens.”
The United Nations, notoriously known for pushing their “Small Arms Treaty” on much of the world, has filed two amicus briefs in this lawsuit, supporting Mexico’s claims.
Among notable speakers at the press conference included Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA-48), Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA-9), Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX-21), Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ-2), Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN-5), Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY-24), and Rep. Bob Good (R-VA-5).
