The AK Guy is Vying for a Congressional Rematch

Brandon Herrera, known online as the “AK Guy,” announced he will be running to unseat incumbent Rep. Tony Gonzales in Texas’ 23rd Congressional District.

Herrera competed for the same seat last year, forced it to a runoff election, and came up 400 votes short of securing the Republican nomination for Texas’ 23rd Congressional District.

His opponent, incumbent Rep. Tony Gonzales, drew criticism from gun rights supporters during the last election cycle.

Gonzales voted for the “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act of 2022,” which directed funding to states to enact “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation, legislation that the National Association for Gun Rights has opposed ever since it’s inception.

Herrera boasts a large social media presence, with over 4.4 million YouTube subscribers and over 600,000 followers on X.

Additionally, Herrera has become a Second Amendment champion by promising to protect citizen’s rights to carry a firearm as well as working to block any firearms restrictions and efforts to pass “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation laws.

The National Association for Gun Rights and it’s Colorado-affiliate, Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, has worked closely with Herrera. For instance, Brandon worked with Dudley Brown, President of NAGR and RMGO, to deliver “No ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban” petitions to the Colorado State Legislature in 2024 and even spoke to hundreds of supporters in the rally preceding the petition delivery.
