Columbia, SC – House Bill 3594 has passed out of the Conference Committee. The committee report was subsequently adopted by the House of Representatives. Once the Senate adopts the report, HB 3594 will go to Governor McMaster to be signed into law.
“Gun owners across the state are deeply disappointed that the Senate refused to remove their anti-gun amendments during conference,” said Tommy Dimsdale, Executive Director of Palmetto Gun Rights, the state affiliate of the National Association for Gun Rights. “However, it was the hard work of PGR staff and our members that insured this bill didn’t fall victim to even more draconian gun control measures and also meets the criteria for South Carolina to become the 29th Constitutional Carry state.”
With Louisiana enacting a clean Constitutional Carry bill earlier today, South Carolina is the last remaining Republican trifecta state to enact Constitutional Carry legislation.
The Conference Committee insisted on several amendments to HB 3594, some of which Palmetto Gun Rights deemed as anti-gun measures, including Amendment 36 by Senator Shane Massey. Palmetto Gun Rights and the National Association for Gun Rights plan to return to “clean up” some of the unfavorable sections of the bill that the Senate reinserted in Conference Committee such as Senator Massey’s Amendment 36 (Section 24 of H. 3594).
“I’m glad South Carolina is taking some steps in the right direction, but if the politicians think HB 3594 will be good enough to placate us, they are sorely mistaken,” said Dudley Brown President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “We’ll be back in the election season, and the next legislative season, and so on. We’ll be fighting for as long as it takes for South Carolina gun owners to get a proper Constitutional Carry law.”
“We’ve got a hotly contested primary season ahead of us,” said Tommy Dimsdale. “And there is a lot of accountability to dish out. I’m proud of the tenacity and relentless pressure our members displayed in getting this pro-gun legislation over another hurdle and we’re looking forward to more action in South Carolina.”
The National Association for Gun Rights and Palmetto Gun Rights are urging legislators to pass a clean Constitutional Carry bill on to the Governor immediately.
The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s second largest pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members and supporters nationwide.
