Speaker Joe Tate changes policy, will no longer allow staff to carry for self-defense in House Office Building.
Lansing, MI – Yesterday, the Michigan House of Representatives announced to staff that they would be prohibited from carrying weapons for self-defense during their work hours in the House Office Building.
The policy, as it is understood, applies to all forms of defensive weapons, including firearms, tasers, pepper spray, and knives. There is no exemption for Concealed Pistol License holders.
“Democrat legislators keep spouting that their gun control policies only go after criminals and won’t impact law-abiding citizens, but it simply isn’t true,” said Brenden Boudreau, Executive Director of Great Lakes Gun Rights, “Speaker of the House Joe Tate is literally disarming his own staff in the 17th most violent city in America. This ridiculous policy will actively harm his own employees.”
Under the new policy, members of the House of Representatives and the general public will still be able to carry for self-defense, but it is believed that this policy change is a precursor to further restrictions coming in the future.
“This isn’t just about House staff carrying for self-defense while in the office, but also their walks to and from the House Office Building, as they are forbidden from having any of these weapons on their persons. Disarming these staffers is a dream come true for violent criminals,” explained Boudreau.
“This is a reckless policy that is going to leave countless House staff members defenseless against violent criminals in Lansing. But this is sadly not surprising coming from the pro-crime, anti-gun Democrats who are actively working to destroy the Second Amendment rights of their constituents,” concluded Boudreau..
