Washington – D.C. – House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA-1) has agreed to allow H.J. Res. 44 (which would nullify the Biden-ATF Brace Ban), to come to the floor for a vote on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
According to Congressman Andrew Clyde (R-GA-9), House Republican leadership threatened to block H.J. Res. 44 unless Clyde voted to raise the debt ceiling and Clyde refused.
“Leadership was hell-bent on getting the debt ceiling raised and they were willing to use the pistol brace ban as a bargaining chip to leverage Rep Clyde’s vote. All the while letting gun owners with pistol braces twist in the wind under threat of unjust fines and up to 10 years in prison for not complying with this unconstitutional “rule” made up by ATF bureaucrats,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights.
This was also confirmed by Representative Eli Crane: “(Republican) Leadership was willing to hold your 2A rights hostage for their disgraceful debt bill.” – Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ-2)
“The National Association for Gun Rights called on our members to contact Scalise’s office to insist he bring H.J. Res. 44 up for a vote, and it worked. We also sent tens of thousands of petitions signed by our members to the ATF to urge them to abandon the Biden-ATF pistol ban,” said Brown.
The Congressional Research Service estimates 10 to 40 million stabilizing braces are currently in circulation. The ATF says only 250,000 have been registered as of the May 31st deadline.
The National Association for Gun Rights is now urging its members to contact their representatives to encourage them to vote for H.J. Res. 44 on Tuesday.
The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide.
