U.S. Senate Candidate Josh Turek wants Iowa voters to believe he is a moderate, but his actions — and the company he keeps — tell a very different story.
While Iowa was hosting one of the biggest political events of the year at the Iowa State Fair, Josh Turek (D) was busy cultivating relationships with the very people he apparently wants Iowans to forget about.
That includes an organization tied to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, one of the most powerful and outspoken gun control advocates in Washington.
For Turek, the Iowa State Fair should have been an obvious opportunity to meet with voters and show that Iowa comes first.
Instead, he made time to campaign the coastal elites in New England.
And that matters because Turek is now trying to reinvent himself as some kind of independent-minded moderate.
That may be a difficult sell when one of the most prominent gun grabbers in the U.S. Senate is publicly backing his Senate campaign.
Chuck Schumer has gone so far as to call Turek “our guy.”
That is quite an endorsement for someone who wants Iowa voters to believe he is going to chart his own course in Washington.
Turek’s campaign lies insist that he is different from the national Democrat Party and their support for the gun control agenda. But voters need to look no further than who is actually supporting his campaign — and why.
And the list is not exactly overflowing with Second Amendment champions.
Turek is receiving support from powerful anti-gunners, like Barack Obama, and Schumer-aligned political organizations that have demonstrated their willingness to spend heavily to put Democrats in the U.S. Senate.
So while Turek tries to present himself to Iowans as a pragmatic moderate, gun grabbers appear to have no trouble recognizing him as one of their own.
When push comes to shove, his relationship with the Gun Control Lobby — and especially Chuck Schumer — speaks louder than a campaign slogan.
Iowa voters deserve to know exactly who they would be sending to Washington.
And if Turek wants to convince them that he is truly an Iowa moderate, he may want to start by explaining why he is so comfortable standing alongside the people who have spent years trying to restrict the rights of law-abiding gun owners.
The National Association for Gun Rights is fighting to expose Turek’s anti-gun relationships to gun owners all across the state of Iowa.
