National Association for Gun Rights Calls on Louisiana Legislature
to Override Governor’s Constitutional Carry Veto
Baton Rouge, LA – In the waning hours of June 24th, Governor Edwards vetoed SB 118, also known as Constitutional Carry. The National Association for Gun Rights has issued a statement demanding legislators override the Governor’s veto:
“To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, the Louisiana legislature must overturn the Governor’s veto and restore the God given rights of law-abiding gun owners. The National Association for Gun Rights is mobilizing members across Louisiana to encourage legislators to join its neighboring states by making Louisiana the 22nd Constitutional Carry state,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights.
Constitutional Carry is the simple idea that anyone who can legally possess a firearm can legally carry it without a permit to protect themselves and their loved ones. SB 118 simply aligns Louisiana’s concealed carry laws with its permitless open carry laws by removing the “coat tax,” government mandated training, and extensive waiting periods.
SB 118’s passage attained significant bi-partisan support this year, however, many gun owners are concerned legislators may cave to pressure from the Governor’s office during the veto override session.
“The whole nation will be watching. Those who turn their backs on the cause will be sorely remembered by gun owners for a long time. With veto-proof majorities and support from both sides of the aisle, there’s no excuse for lawmakers to kill Constitutional Carry,” stated Dudley Brown.
The National Association for Gun Rights has spent significant resources promoting this landmark legislation including mailing tens of thousands of pieces of mail, deploying nearly a hundred thousand text messages, and launching digital ads and emails encouraging lawmakers to pass Constitutional Carry.
NAGR will hold legislators accountable until Constitutional Carry is made a reality for the people of Louisiana.
The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization,
with 4.5 million members nationwide.
