NAGR Celebrates Louisiana’s Constitutional Carry Victory with Gov. Landry at Bill Signing Ceremony

Baton Rouge, LA – Joined by National Association for Gun Rights staff, pro-gun legislators, and other gun rights activists, Governor Jeff Landry followed through on his campaign promise to make Louisiana the 28th Constitutional Carry in the nation.

“This is a great day for the people of Louisiana,” said Ryan Flugaur, Vice President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “We want to thank the 80,000 members and supporters of the National Association for Gun Rights who signed petitions to urge passage of a clean bill. Without them, there could have been a much different outcome.”

On February 20th, the National Association for Gun Rights delivered 80,000 petitions on day one of Louisiana’s Second Extraordinary Session urging passage of the Constitutional Carry bill, SB 1. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Blake Miguez, is the fruition of more than 6 years of the National Association for Gun Rights’ grassroots activism in the Bayou State.

Constitutional Carry legislation, sponsored by pro-gun Representative Danny McCormick, had passed the legislature in previous years but failed to get past then-Governor John Bel Edwards’ desk. Newly elected Governor Jeff Landry was endorsed by the National Association for Gun Rights PAC last year due to his enthusiastic support for Constitutional Carry as well as his 100% pledged support for the Second Amendment.

Constitutional Carry is the simple concept that law-abiding gun owners who can legally possess a firearm can legally carry the firearm, open or concealed, without a government permit.

28 states now have some form of Constitutional Carry in statute, with South Carolina on the cusp of joining the list. Louisiana’s new Constitutional Carry law takes effect on Independence Day this July.

The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s second largest pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members and supporters nationwide.
