National Association for Gun Rights issues statement on Sen. Schumer’s “Assault Weapons Ban”

On Monday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, announced his intention to “put the Assault Weapons Ban on the Senate floor” this week.

Sen. Schumer’s intention bypasses the committee process, debate, and a floor vote, in hopes for unanimous consent on a bill that does not have enough votes to pass.

“Schumer is grandstanding, throwing up a hail Mary, in a purely political attempt to weasel a so-called ‘Assault Weapons Ban’ though the Senate without a vote,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “A sweeping gun ban of any variety is clearly unconstitutional in light of the Bruen decision.”

Bruen held that any gun regulation that does not fall into the text, history, and tradition of the Second Amendment is unconstitutional.

“Schumer and the Democrat’s endgame is the total destruction of the Second Amendment and disarming the American people,” said Brown.

The National Association for Gun Rights is calling on all pro-gun Senators to block Sen. Schumer’s procedural bypass and demand a floor vote. NAGR opposes any attempt to ban semi-auto firearms and standard capacity magazines.

The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide.
