Palmetto Gun Rights Responds to Senate Judiciary Passing Constitutional Carry

press release

COLUMBIA, SC. May 9, 2023 – This morning the Senate Judiciary Committee passed S. 109, “Constitutional Carry” on a vote of 12-11. The bill must now pass the full Senate before Sine Dine, which is Thursday, May 11th.

“27 other states have passed Constitutional Carry laws, South Carolina needs to step up,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “The fundamental right to keep and bear arms must be restored. It’s time for South Carolina to pass Constitutional Carry.”

“Gun owners have waited long enough,” said Tommy Dimsdale, Executive Director of Palmetto Gun Rights. “Enough delays, enough stalling, no more excuses. The South Carolina legislature must pass Constitutional Carry this session or face the music from gun owners at the polls.”

Dimsdale added, “Anti-gun Senators like Luke Rankin have been denying South Carolinians of their Second Amendment rights for years, I’m glad to see the Senate Judiciary Committee has stopped dragging their feet.”

Constitutional Carry is the simple concept that anyone who is a law-abiding gun owner can legally carry a firearm, open or concealed, without a government permit.

The National Association for Gun Rights has been an active part of the passage of 25 Constitutional Carry bills since 2010. If S. 109 becomes law, South Carolina would join Florida and Nebraska, which became the 26th and 27th states, respectively.

The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide.
