H.J. Res 44, which would nullify ATF’s ban on pistol braces, passed the House of Representatives on a 219-210 vote yesterday.
The resolution is an attempt by Congress to reverse ATF Rule 2021R-08F which significantly expands the definition of “rifle” under federal law, imposing significant criminal liability on millions of Americans exercising their Second Amendment rights.
“After six months of dragging their feet, the House finally succumbed to pressure from gun owners to go after the ATF stabilizing brace ban,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “If left to their own devices GOP Leadership would have left brace owners high and dry with threats of extreme fines and 10 years in prison hanging over their heads.”
“The threat is not over, the fight now moves to the Senate,” said Brown “At NAGR, we are mobilizing our members to contact their Senators urging them to vote for H.J. Res 44. The lives and livelihoods of millions of Americans are at stake.”
The Congressional Research Service estimates 10 to 40 million stabilizing braces are currently in circulation. The ATF says only 250,000 have been registered as of the May 31st deadline.
The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide.
