Rep. Bob Good Introduces SHUSH Act in Congress

Last week, Rep. Bob Good (R-VA-5) introduced a bill to completely deregulate firearm suppressors, or “silencers,” from federal regulation.

The Silencers Helping Us Save Hearing Act (SHUSH Act) would completely remove suppressors from NFA (National Firearms Act) regulations, doing away with the $200 tax stamp and vigorous background check, if signed into law.

Currently, anyone who wishes to purchase a firearm suppressor must pay a $200 tax stamp to the federal government, submit a passport-style photo, submit fingerprints, and wait days, weeks, months, even years for government approval.

The SHUSH Act would completely rid of the bureaucratic rigmarole and treat suppressors as other firearm accessories, such as foregrips, stocks, scopes — parts you can buy off the shelf at any gun store.

Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights, went on to say:

“Rep. Good is a champion for gun rights, and his legislation displays his dedication to restoring the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding Americans. Most in Congress who support silencer freedom want full deregulation, and that’s exactly what Good is doing with his bills. Suppressors are accessories and should be treated just like magazines, scopes, or gun stocks. Treating an accessory the same as a gun sets a bad precedence for anti-gun legislators to further regulate other accessories in the future. We’re happy and privileged to be able to work with Rep. Good on this legislation, and excited to continue pushing forward.”
