Constitutional Carry Bill S. 109 cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, May 9th, by a razor-thin margin of 12-11.
S. 109 has been slowly making its rounds through the South Carolina Legislature, as it now heads for a full Senate vote.
The State House passed their version of the bill in February.
Palmetto Gun Rights, South Carolina state affiliate of the National Association for Gun Rights, has been putting the pressure on the State Senate, where anti-gun Senators are trying to stall the bill out.
PGR is also stressing urgency, as there are less than two weeks left in session for the 2023 calendar year.
Constitutional Carry is a simple idea — if you can buy a gun for self-defense, you should be able to carry that gun, openly or concealed, without begging for government permission to do so.
Last year, South Carolina made a huge step in becoming a Constitutional Carry state, as it passed the House by a vote of 87-26, but failed to move in the State Senate.
