Suppressor Deregulation Clears U.S. House, But What About Short-Barreled Firearms?

Late last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the “big” reconciliation bill by a vote of 215-214, and included provisions to deregulate suppressors and eliminated the $200 tax stamp.

While the House took steps to deregulate firearm suppressors, some items were excluded from the bill, such as the Stop Harassing Owners of Rifles Today (SHORT) Act.

The SHORT Act would completely remove short-barreled firearms from the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA), meaning no more fingerprinting, endless ATF paperwork, and weeks-long waiting times for approval.

National Association for Gun Rights’ staff was on Capitol Hill all last week, delivering petitions, meeting with key lawmakers, and monitoring for any updates.

Dustin Curtis, Director of Political Operations for NAGR, said:

“With every office we visited, phones were ringing off the hook from gun owners. Congressional staffers were scrambling to respond to constituents demanding the dismantling of the National Firearms Act.”

Now, all eyes shift to the U.S. Senate, where the National Association for Gun Rights is pushing to add the SHORT Act into the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

The U.S. Senate is currently on Memorial Day vacation until Monday, June 2nd.

In the meantime, the National Association for Gun Rights is gathering petitions to deliver to U.S. Senators, demanding they “Nuke the NFA” by including SHORT Act language and ensure the FULL deregulation of suppressors in their version of the budget bill.

You can click here to sign your “Nuke the NFA” petition.

National Association for Gun Rights’ staff will be delivering these petitions early next week.
