The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.J. Res. 44, Repeal Firearm Stabilizing Braces Rule, by a vote of 219 to 210.
The U.S. House passed H.J. Res. 44 by a vote of 219-210 (5 not voting).
The new rule (ATF Rule 2021R-08F) significantly expands the definition of “rifle” under federal law, imposing significant criminal liability on millions of Americans exercising their Second Amendment rights.
The Biden Administration and the ATF initially allowed gun owners to “register” their pistol braces with the tax stamp fee waived until May 31st, 2023.
Now that the rule has taken effect, potentially millions of gun owners were turned into felons overnight as only a small fraction of those in possession of pistol braces actually registered them during the grace period.
Here’s what Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights said before the vote on Tuesday:
“Congress should have acted sooner, and now millions of brace owners are at risk of being fined and losing their freedom because Congress dragged their feet for months. This is no time to play politics on the House floor. Every Republican in the House should support moving this resolution onto the Senate, and that is what we expect to happen. We will be scoring the rule vote. H.J. Res. 44 must move forward.
The resolution now moves onto the Senate, where Democrats hold a very thin majority.
President Biden has already announced he would veto the resolution, should it make it to his desk.
