U.S. Supreme Court Leaves PA’s 18-to-20 Year Old Carry Ban in Place

The Supreme Court declined to hear oral arguments and overturned a lower court ruling from Pennsylvania that allowed residents under 21 to carry firearms in public.

Under Pennsylvania’s current state law, 18-to-20-year-olds were not allowed to only carry firearms during declared states of emergencies.

The Supreme Court’s decision overturns a federal appeals court ruling that found the law violated the Second Amendment.

That three-judge appeals court panel found the law was unconstitutional, stated the landmark Bruen ruling from 2022.

State officials argued the lower federal court “overread” the Bruen decision, which generally requires governments to point to a similar historical law in order to overcome Constitutional challenges.

The Supreme Court did not explain its ruling and no dissents were noted.
