U.S. Surgeon General Declares Gun Violence a “Public Health Emergency”

After facing mounting pressure from some doctors and Democratic advocacy groups, Dr. Vivek Murthy issued the advisory on Tuesday morning.

Taking a play out of the government’s playbook from 1964, when the surgeon general snubbed out the tobacco industry and forced Congress to regulate tobacco, Dr. Murthy is trying to pull the same trick, but against the Second Amendment.

Despite citing studies, the data was cherry-picked to fit the Left’s agenda against the Second Amendment.

Such studies say “firearms are the leading cause of death for children and adolescents,” but only includes those aged 1-19 years old, leaving out 0-1 year olds and adding 18-19 year olds into the study.

Murthy went on to call on Congress to “ban automatic rifles, introduce universal background checks, regulate the industry, pass laws that would restrict the use of firearms in public spaces, and penalize people who fail to safely store their weapons.”

Additionally, Murthy calls for an increase on gun violence research and for the health system to promote gun safety education during doctor visits.
