Veterans Second Amendment Protection Act Passes House Committee

On Tuesday, May 6th, the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs passed H.R. 1041 favorably out of committee and to the House floor by a vote of 13-11.

Distinguished as a pro-gun and pro-veteran bill by the National Association for Gun Rights, H.R. 1041 — the Veterans Second Amendment Protection Act passed favorably out of committee on Tuesday, May 6th.

Throughout the Obama and Biden Administrations, bureaucrats used the VA to categorically strip and deny Second Amendment rights to our nation’s Veterans, resulting in over 200,000 losing their right to bear arms because they sought help managing their VA benefits.

This bill seeks to prohibit the VA from reporting veterans to NICS because they appointed a fiduciary, unless a court has determined they pose a threat to themselves or others.

Additionally, the bill mandates the removal of names already added to the NICS list due to the fiduciary policy, effectively restoring veterans’ gun rights retroactively.

Hours before the committee markup, NAGR staffers took to Capitol Hill to hand-deliver petitions to committee members, urging them to advance H.R. 1041 through committee.

During the committee hearing, Democrats attempted to attach amendments to the bill to water it down — however none advanced, leaving a clean bill.

Now, the bill will await to be heard on the U.S. House floor.
