Virginia Gun Owners Face New Anti-Gun Administration

As a fresh administration takes office, Virginia lawmakers gear up to impose stricter gun control — prompting concern amongst Second Amendment supporters.

In Richmond, Virginia legislators are preparing to advance sweeping new gun control measures under the incoming state administration following the November 4th elections.

In 2026, Democrats will occupy almost two-thirds of the House of Delegates, and hold a 21-19 majority in the State Senate.

Additionally, Virginians are installing radical anti-gunner Abigail Spanberger into the Governor’s mansion.

Legislators are now taking the steps to get ready for the 2026 legislative session, arguing gun control is needed to promote public safety, yet for law-abiding gun owners, the plans signal a growing threat to their Second Amendment rights.

Proposed changes include:

  • Making possession of a firearm on a university campus a Class I misdemeanor
  • Criminalizing leaving firearms in vehicles
  • Extending firearm purchase waiting periods
  • Mandatory storage requirements
  • Limits on certain categories of rifles and magazines

Such policies punish responsible owners while doing little to disarm actual criminals.

As the tide in the Virginia legislature shifts, the risk grows that new legislation will erode protections for self-defense, hunting, and sport shooting.

With session preparations underway, Virginia’s gun owners and defenders of the Second Amendment are mobilizing to ensure their voices are heard — and their rights preserved.
