NAGR seeks Preliminary Injunction in Connecticut Assault Weapons Ban Case

press release

New Haven, CT – Today, the National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR)’s lawsuit NAGR v. Lamont  (U.S. District Court, District of Connecticut, 3:22:cv-01118) has a preliminary injunction hearing in federal district court. The National Foundation for Gun Rights, NAGR’s legal arm, is suing the state of Connecticut to overturn their assault weapon and magazine ban.

“With the decision handed down in Bruen, laws like this one will now need to find their justification in the history, text, and tradition of the Second Amendment,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “This law bans one of the most common guns in America, which is in clear violation of the rule set forth in Heller and Bruen.”

“Connecticut tried to get us thrown off the case, but we won that battle,” continued Brown. “Now we’re asking the court to give us a preliminary injunction blocking the enforcement of the law for the duration of the case.”

Connecticut is in the 2nd Circuit of the US Court of Appeals. A circuit-level victory here will establish legal precedent throughout the entire circuit including New York and Vermont.

“Estimates of non-compliance with this unconstitutional gun ban run into the hundreds of thousands,” said Hannah Hill, Executive Director of the National Foundation for Gun Rights. “Those gun owners were made criminals by an unjust law, and we will do everything in our power to right that wrong. If our injunction is denied, we are prepared to appeal directly to the Supreme Court.”

The National Association for Gun Rights’ legal defense arm, the National Foundation for Gun Rights, works to expand pro-gun precedents and defend gun owners. For more information on the National Foundation for Gun Rights please visit their website at https://gunrightsfoundation.org// .

The National Foundation for Gun Rights is a 501(c)(3) organization that exists to expand pro-gun precedents and defend gun owners in the courts.
