South Carolina Becomes 29th Constitutional Carry State

Columbia, SC – After over a decade of debate, Constitutional Carry House Bill 3594 was signed into law this afternoon. South Carolina joins 28 other states in passing this bill deemed a “big win” by gun owners and many Second Amendment organizations such as the National Association for Gun Rights and their state affiliate, Palmetto Gun Rights.

The legislation dubbed “Constitutional Carry” allows anyone who can legally possess a firearm to legally carry that firearm to defend themselves. H. 3594 does not change who can legally possess a firearm. It makes the permitting requirement optional, but still intact for those who wish to get a CWP.

“This bill allows law-abiding gun owners to exercise their God-given rights without being forced to pay fees, be fingerprinted like a common criminal, or wait unreasonable amounts of time for government permission to carry a firearm. This is how the founders intended it,” said Tommy Dimsdale, Executive Director of Palmetto Gun Rights, “Our draconian permitting system forced law-abiding gun owners to wait for protection when they needed it most. To deprive our fellow man or woman of the liberty of self-defense is not only unconstitutional but downright immoral. I’m elated that we’re finally fixing that in South Carolina today.”

The National Association for Gun Rights President, Dudley Brown, said “28 states have Constitutional Carry so far and nowhere do we see blood running in the streets or wild west shootouts like gun control advocates claim. In fact, we see crime rates either unchanged or decreasing. We’re about to see the fear mongering from the left is just that; fearmongering.”

Representatives from the National Association for Gun Rights and Palmetto Gun Rights both call this a monumental win for South Carolina gun owners and intend to stay active in the Palmetto State to ensure the Second Amendments right of SC citizens remain untouched and well-guarded.

The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s second largest pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members and supporters nationwide.
