Constitutional Carry Heads to Governor’s Desk in North Carolina

However, Gov. Josh Stein seems poised to veto the pro-gun legislation, potentially putting gun rights supporters in the Tar Heel State behind 29 states that currently recognize Constitutional Carry as law of the land.

SB 50, Constitutional Carry, has faced numerous hurdles in the North Carolina State Legislature — but it is finally heading to the Governor’s desk.

Constitutional Carry is the simple idea that if you’re legally able to own a firearm, you should be able to carry that firearm, openly or concealed, without begging the government for permission.

Under current law, without SB 50, law-abiding gun owners are forced to cut through a plethora of government red tape, undergo government-mandated training, pay nearly $100 in fees, and wait 45 days before being able to legally carry a firearm concealed.

The penalty for not doing the above — up to a $1,000 fine, 60 days of community service, and 60 days in jail.

North Carolina has never been closer to passing a Constitutional Carry law until now — but doubts remain.

Gov. Stein has publicly announced he would veto SB 50 if it reached his desk, and with three-fifths of the legislature needed to override the veto, SB 50 faces an uphill climb.

The National Association for Gun Rights is pulling out all the stops, demanding gun rights supporters in North Carolina call Gov. Josh Stein at (919) 814-2000, pressing “5”, and demand he NOT veto Constitutional Carry.

Even if Gov. Stein does veto SB 50, it will take all Republicans to hold strong, vote correctly, and count on a couple Democrats to not show up to work during the veto override.
