Other than perhaps Senator John Cornyn in Texas, few “Republicans” in the U.S. Senate have done more damage to the Second Amendment than Louisiana’s Bill Cassidy.
In 2022, Cassidy voted with every Democrat in Congress for S.2938, Joe Biden’s sweeping gun control package known as the “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.” That legislation directed $750 million toward so-called “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation programs, cracked down on private firearm sales, and expanded lifetime firearm prohibitions for many young gun buyers.
But Cassidy’s anti-gun record did not start there. One year earlier, he voted to confirm Merrick Garland as Biden’s Attorney General, handing Garland control of the Department of Justice and the ATF for the next four years.
With vote after vote attacking the rights of law-abiding gun owners, Cassidy now appears to be struggling to hold onto support from Republican voters back home in Louisiana.
That desperation was on full display during an appearance on the Ruthless Podcast, where Cassidy openly pleaded for Democrat voters to help save his Senate seat.
Louisiana gun owners have not forgotten Bill Cassidy’s betrayal of the Second Amendment, and his desperate plea for Democrat support is only adding more fuel to the fire ahead of 2026.
