On September 15, 2025, Minnesota’s Senate Gun Violence Prevention Working Group discussed numerous gun control proposals following the tragedy at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.
This working group comes on the heels of Governor Tim Walz (D) announcing he is planning a special session this fall, specifically targeting gun control.
Far-Left State Senator Zaynab Mohamed appeared to be leading the charge, announcing she’s introducing a bill to “ban ‘assault weapons’ and ‘high-capacity’ magazines in Minnesota.”
When laying out her ideal “Assault Weapons” Ban legislation text, here is what Mohamed included:
- Ban on magazines that hold more than ten rounds
- Ban on “semi-automatic military-style weapons”
- Ban on .50 caliber firearms
- Mandatory gun registry
- Mandatory firearms ownership to the police
- Ban on inheriting firearms
- Five-year felony for owning an “assault weapon”
Furthermore, the working group floated other proposals including:
- Establishing an Office of Gun Violence Prevention
- Ban on binary triggers
- Registration of 3D-printed firearms and homemade firearms
- Banning firearms in city-owned or leased buildings
- Safe Storage Laws
The National Association for Gun Rights is collecting, and will be delivering “No Gun Control” petitions to state lawmakers in Minnesota this fall.
In an email to Minnesota gun rights supporters, Dustin Curtis, NAGR Director of Political Affairs, proclaimed:
It’s clear, Leftists in St. Paul aren’t messing around, and they’re not hiding their true goal: the complete elimination of gun rights in Minnesota.
