Gun Rights Group Renews Call for Clean Constitutional Carry Legislation

press release

Montgomery, AL – As lawmakers return to Montgomery for the 2022 Regular Session, the National Association for Gun Rights is renewing its call for Alabama lawmakers to pass a clean Constitutional Carry bill with no anti-gun amendments.

“While it seems there is appetite in Montgomery to pass Constitutional Carry, some lawmakers are working with anti-gun organizations to water down this much needed pro-gun legislation,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “Let me be clear: any lawmaker who votes to water down or kill Constitutional Carry is doing the bidding of anti-gun groups like Bloomberg’s Moms Demand Action. There’s no excuse for Alabama to lag so far behind 21 other states which recognize Constitutional Carry as the law.”

Recently, the Executive Director of the Alabama Sheriff’s Association (ASA), Bobby Timmons, admitted that the lobbying group is working with gun control group Moms Demand Action to stop Constitutional Carry from advancing in the legislature. In an interview with 1819 News, Timmons explained that the ASA would be in favor of rewriting the Second Amendment by changing it to only allow possession of firearms in your home.

House Bill 66 (Constitutional Carry) does not change who can legally possess a handgun or where they can carry a handgun under Alabama law. House Bill 66 simply removes the requirement to obtain a permit and removes the tax associated with carrying a concealed handgun — nor does it eliminate the current permit system in Alabama.

“Legislators have an opportunity to make Alabama’s gun laws some of the strongest in the country ahead of this year’s elections,” Brown said. “It’s important they stand with gun owners and pass a clean bill instead of compromising with anti-gun radicals. There is no other piece of pro-gun legislation as popular as Constitutional Carry, and law-abiding gun owners deserve to see their rights restored in 2022.”

The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide.
