The National Association for Gun Rights applauds the effort by the GOP supermajority to override and ensure the “Protection Lawful Commerce in Arms (PLCAA) Clarification Act of 2026” becomes law of the land.
Kentucky lawmakers faced mounting pressure from Second Amendment advocates to override Democratic Governor Andy Beshear’s veto of legislation designed to shield firearm manufacturers from politically motivated lawsuits.
And on Tuesday, April 14th, both the House and Senate overrode Gov. Beshear’s veto.
The bill, known as House Bill 78, would provide liability protections for members of the firearms industry, preventing them from being targeted for crimes committed by third parties using their products.
The legislation is essential to stopping anti-gun activists from weaponizing the court system to bankrupt lawful businesses.
Beshear rejected the legislation during the state’s veto recess, framing his decision as a matter of public safety and accountability.
However, the National Association for Gun Rights contends the veto undermines lawful commerce and opens the door to abusive litigation intended to cripple the firearms industry.
With Republicans holding a supermajority in the Kentucky General Assembly, lawmakers are expected to reconvene during the final days of the session with enough votes to override the Governor’s decision.
Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights said this before the veto was overridden:
“By vetoing HB78, Kentucky Gov. Beshear must have gotten a call from Michael Bloomberg. It’s time to override him and protect the Second Amendment.”
Brown further expanded:
“Kentucky legislators need to decide if they represent the Bluegrass state, or New York. If they’re elected in Kentucky, they should override Beshear’s veto.”
Now, HB 78 will be law of the land in the Bluegrass State upon enrollment.
