The National Association for Gun Rights is denouncing Senator John Cornyn, and demanding that he apologize after he called Texas GOP activists a “mob” in the wake of his support for federal gun control legislation.

During the Texas GOP convention this past weekend, Senator Cornyn was met with loud boos and chants of “No Red Flag” when he got on stage to deliver a speech. Gun rights activists were peacefully voicing their displeasure with Sen. Cornyn and the gun control legislation he’s been fighting to pass in the U.S. Senate.

“John Cornyn is the definition of  a two-faced politician. He claims to support the Second Amendment, but is actually working to eviscerate our gun rights by cutting deals with anti-gun Democrats – and when his constituents publicly held him accountable, he called them a mob,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “It appears that Sen. Cornyn hates the First Amendment as much as the Second and will continue to undermine the Bill of Rights as long as he’s in public office.”

According to Texas Scorecard the Texas GOP“unanimously approved a resolution condemning the ‘compromise’ package U.S. Sen. John Cornyn crafted unilaterally with his Democrat colleagues to impose new gun control laws.”

“Texans don’t want gun control – and this weekend we used our First Amendment rights to let Cornyn know we won’t tolerate his betrayal,” said Chris McNutt, Executive Director of Texas Gun Rights. “He could be working to eliminate so-called gun free zones, but instead he’s teamed up with Chuck Schumer to extort tax payers into funding Red Flag gun confiscation. And when his voters lobbied him to reverse course, he insulted them and doubled down his support for gun control.”

During the Texas GOP convention, National Association for Gun Rights staff passed out political literature detailing Cornyn’s support for gun control, and filmed the crowd of convention attendees making their voices heard.

The National Association for Gun Rights opposes all federal gun control deals, and is calling on John Cornyn to apologize for mocking his law-abiding constituents, and calling them a mob.

The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide.
