No compromise gun rights groups calls on Governor Henry McMaster to rescind his endorsements of several state legislators
Columbia, SC – The National Association for Gun Rights and their affiliated state group Palmetto Gun Rights (PGR) is calling on Governor Henry McMaster to rescind his endorsements of several anti-gun candidates ahead of the June 14th Republican Primary.
“While gun owners are struggling to protect our freedoms on the national level, Gov. McMaster is working to upend those efforts here in our home state,” said Denise Snelling, Chairman of Palmetto Gun Rights. “We cannot stand idly by and let him hand out endorsements to legislators who actively voted against restoring our gun rights.”
Among those endorsements is Rep. Rita Allison who has voted to kill pro-gun Constitutional Carry legislation four times since 2017. Rep. Allison also returned her PGR candidate survey supporting dangerous “gun-free” zones which disarm law-abiding citizens. PGR is running ads highlighting the fact that Allison wielded her power as Chairman of the Education and Public Works Committee to block bills that would have allowed law-abiding teachers to arm themselves while at school.
McMaster also endorsed Rep. Bart Blackwell who has voted to kill Constitutional Carry all seven times it has come up for a vote — as well as Rep. West Cox who has voted to kill Constitutional Carry four times since 2019.
Tommy Dimsdale, Legislative Director of Palmetto Gun Rights, shared his disappointment stating that, “It’s shocking that while our members are lobbying their U.S. Representatives and Senators to stop gun control in the D.C. Swamp, we also have to lobby our supposed pro-gun governor because of his ill-advised endorsements in South Carolina.”
All of this news comes on the heels of Henry McMaster recently stating that he was looking for options on how to deal with gun violence. One of those options included supporting a bill from Democrat Senator Dick Harpootlian that would convert unlawful carry from a misdemeanor into a felony. Gun owners who accidentally let their concealed weapons permit expire, or improperly stow their firearm in their vehicle, could serve jail time and permanently lose their rights to even own a firearm.
The National Association for Gun Rights and Palmetto Gun Rights are urging their members to call the Governor’s office and demand he rescind his endorsements immediately.
The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide.
