Pennsylvania Gun Rights Celebrates PA State Supreme Court Decision Upholding Preemption of Firearms Laws

Harrisburg, PA – Pennsylvania Gun Rights, the Pennsylvania affiliate of the National Association for Gun Rights, celebrated the recent decision by the Pennsylvania State Supreme Court in Crawford, S., et al, Aplts. v. Commonwealth, et al – No. 19 EAP 2022 which upheld the legislature’s right to preempt (or nullify) local firearms laws.

“This was a decisive unanimous ruling by a Supreme Court that Democrats dominate,” proclaimed Craig Storrs, Jr., Executive Director of Pennsylvania Gun Rights.

“With this ruling, Pennsylvanians can rest assured gun laws are null at the local level and they will not have to contend with a massive web of conflicting gun laws across localities in the Commonwealth,” Storrs added.

In 2022, Philadelphia sued the Commonwealth for the ability to enact their own gun laws. Had the PA Supreme Court sided with Philadelphia, localities across the Commonwealth would have been able to ignore state law and craft their own laws concerning firearms.

“Democrats in Pennsylvania chose to gamble with destiny on firearm law, thinking that a 5-2 Democrat-controlled State Supreme Court would surely rule in their favor on preemption,” explained Dustin Curtis, Director of State Affairs at the National Association for Gun Rights.

“Today, they found out Justices don’t look kindly upon baseless public policy complaints grounded solely in partisanship. This is a major win for gun owners in Pennsylvania.” Curtis added.

Craig Storrs noted PA gun owners in Democrat-controlled localities can breathe a sigh of relief with this ruling.

“For too long, law-abiding gun owners have lived under the cloud of threats from gun grabbers in Philadelphia like radical liberal District Attorney Larry Krasner who would infringe on their gun rights. But yesterday, the PA Supreme Court sided with the rule of law,” Storrs concluded.

Pennsylvania Gun Rights is the fastest growing “no compromise” pro-gun organization in the Keystone State. PAGR is the Pennsylvania affiliate of the National Association for Gun Rights, the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide.
