Gun Owners Call for Vote on ’Urgently Needed’ New Bill to Repeal Cornyn Gun Control Law

WASHINGTON – The National Association for Gun Rights today applauded Congressman Wesley Hunt (R-TX-38) for introducing the Second Amendment Restoration Act of 2025 (H.R. 6035), legislation that would fully repeal the sweeping gun control provisions enacted under the so-called “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act” (BSCA) championed by Senator John Cornyn, Senator Chris Murphy, and President Joe Biden. The “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act” has led to not only extreme abuses of gun owners but has also done nothing to stop crime.

The Second Amendment Restoration Act would dismantle the unconstitutional framework Cornyn and Biden built, which used federal money to bribe states into passing “Red Flag” gun confiscation laws, imposed new waiting periods on law-abiding adults under 21, and handed the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) expanded powers to harass small retailers and private sellers.

“John Cornyn sold out gun owners,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “He teamed up with Joe Biden and Chris Murphy to ram through the largest gun control package in decades, one that built a federal slush fund for gun confiscation and gave the ATF the tools to target honest gun owners. Congressman Hunt’s bill tears out that betrayal root and branch.”

The legislation would also repeal the “Engaged in Business” rule, which forces ordinary Americans to register as licensed dealers simply for selling firearms for profit, and eliminate the new federal crimes and penalties for so-called “straw purchases.”

“The Cornyn-Murphy gun control deal created a backdoor national registry, criminalized private sales, and empowered bureaucrats to decide who gets to exercise a constitutional right. The Second Amendment Restoration Act is the reset America’s gun owners have been demanding since that disastrous vote,” Brown continued.

The Second Amendment Restoration Act would restore federal law to its pre-BSCA status, ensuring that no future administration can use taxpayer dollars to coerce states into violating due process or the right to keep and bear arms.

“Congressman Hunt’s bill stands out because it exposes lawmakers in both parties and his own U.S. Senator John Cornyn, who foolishly passed gun control in the first place, and that takes guts,” added Brown. “We thank Rep. Hunt for introducing this bill and implore Speaker Johnson and House Committee Chairman Jim Jordan to act swiftly to vote on and pass this urgently needed pro-gun bill.”

“Finally, someone has introduced a pro-gun bill that would actually do what most Republicans campaigned on,” added Brown.
