Alexandria, VA – Today, the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee will consider the Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act—but unless Congress strengthens this bill, hundreds of thousands of American veterans will remain disarmed and defenseless against the very government they swore to protect.
“It’s a disgrace that over 250,000 veterans—men and women who risked their lives defending our Constitution—have had their gun rights stripped away by unelected bureaucrats,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “A veteran appointing a fiduciary to manage their benefits is NOT a justifiable reason to revoke their fundamental right to bear arms. This is an outright attack on those who served and must be reversed immediately.”
The bill currently prohibits future wrongful disarmament, but it does nothing to restore the rights of those already affected—a glaring omission that Congress must address before passing this legislation.
“This bill is only half a solution,” said Hunter King, Federal Affairs Director for the National Association for Gun Rights. “If our so-called pro-gun lawmakers truly support the Second Amendment, they will ensure the bill fully restores the rights of every veteran who has already been stripped of their firearms. Anything less is a betrayal.”
The National Association for Gun Rights is calling on all Americans to demand action from their representatives. Veterans fought for our freedoms—now we must fight for theirs.
The National Association for Gun Rights will not stand by while government bureaucrats continue to infringe on the rights of America’s heroes. We demand that Congress pass a bill that fully restores the Second Amendment rights of every veteran affected by this unconstitutional policy.
