Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has once again introduced the Safe Students Act, repealing the Gun Free School Zones Act
Washington, D.C. Today, Rep. Thomas Massie once again introduced the Safe Students Act which would repeal the Gun Free School Zones Act of 1990. Passed inside of the Crime Control Act of 1990, the Gun Free School Zones act prohibits law-abiding adults from carrying lawfully owned concealed firearms on school grounds, and within school buildings.
Rep. Massie’s bill would simply repeal the law and let schools, teachers, and parents decide how best to protect their students.
“Gun Free School Zones don’t work now and didn’t when Congress passed this anti-gun legislation over 30 years ago,” said Dudley Brown, President of National Association for Gun Rights. “So-called ‘gun free’ zones don’t make guns magically disappear – but they do make criminals out of good people who would protect our children and stand up to deranged murderers. Repealing this ludicrous federal law would put criminals on notice that they’ll meet deadly force if they try to hurt our kids.”
Rep. Massie introduced the Safe Students Act in the last Congress but did not receive a hearing or a vote on his bill.
“Massie’s landmark bill would protect our nation’s children from violent thugs by allowing law-abiding adults to effectively defend our children in the classroom. I certainly hope that Speaker McCarthy and pro-gun Republicans rally around this bill, give it a speedy hearing, and pass it out of the U.S. House,” said Brown.
The bill is expected to meet substantial opposition from President Biden and the Democrats in Washington, D.C.
“The painful truth is that the Gun Free School Zones Act has equipped evil individuals to carry out their crimes against helpless children. Joe Biden and anti-gun politicians will desperately attack millions of law-abiding gun owners who live peaceful lives, not because they want to pass laws which will save children — but to expand their disastrous policies which enable the loss of innocent life. I encourage every pro-gun Member of Congress to co-sponsor Rep. Massie’s lifesaving legislation,” concluded Brown.
The National Association for Gun Rights is urging its members to call their representative and tell them to co-sponsor the Safe Students Act.
The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide.
