National Association for Gun Rights PAC Endorses Paxton, Targets Cornyn’s Anti-Gun Record

WEATHERFORD, TX – The National Association for Gun Rights PAC (NAGR PAC) announced Thursday its endorsement of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for the U.S. Senate, citing incumbent Sen. John Cornyn’s “decades-long war” on the Second Amendment.

Cornyn, a Republican, has come under fire from gun owners for his role as chief negotiator of the so-called “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act” (S.2938), the most extensive federal gun control package in decades. The law funds “Red Flag” gun confiscation programs, expands federal background checks, and sends billions in taxpayer dollars to anti-gun bureaucracies.

“John Cornyn isn’t just weak on guns, he’s one of the United States Senate’s leading architects of gun control,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “He’s struck deals with Chuck Schumer, handed Joe Biden’s ATF the keys to trample our rights, and sold off the freedoms of law-abiding Texans like a crooked cattle trader at a rigged auction;  all for a tip of the hat from the gun control lobby. Cornyn’s record is a betrayal that gun owners will never forget.”

Cornyn also spearheaded the Fix NICS Act (S.2135), which supercharged the federal gun registry by flooding it with millions of new names. That law nearly doubled the prohibited persons list from 19 million to 34 million — sweeping in veterans, seniors, and other peaceable Americans who’ve never committed a violent crime, all so the government could more easily deny them their right to purchase a firearm.

“Cornyn has done more to grow the federal gun registry than most Democrats,” Brown added. “From ‘Red Flag’ confiscations to expanding background checks, he’s been the willing workhorse of the anti-gun left. Texans deserve a senator who will fight back, not hand Democrats the tools to strip away our rights.”

Grassroots anger at Cornyn reached a boiling point in 2022 when NAGR activists distributed flyers exposing his role in S.2938 at the Texas GOP Convention. When Cornyn took the stage, the crowd erupted in boos, an audible rebuke from his own party.

“Cornyn’s anti-gun record is a slap in the face to every Texan. Defeating him will send a message to every Republican in Washington: betray gun owners, and you’re next,” Brown concluded.

Paxton returned his NAGR PAC candidate survey 100% pro-gun and, as attorney general, has sued the ATF over its rule requiring background checks on private gun sales, aiming to block what NAGR PAC calls an unconstitutional federal overreach.
